Goals vs. Stress

Goals vs. Stress

Priyanka was a diligent student pursuing her dream of becoming a successful engineer. Her days were packed with classes, assignments, and endless hours of study.

Priyanka’s apartment was a cozy space filled with textbooks, sticky notes, and her laptop. Her friends often admired her commitment, but they also noticed how stressed she seemed. “Priyanka, you’re always buried in books. Don’t you ever take a break?” they would ask.

Priyanka would smile and say, “I’m working towards my goal. I just need to stay focused.”

Despite her determination, Priyanka couldn’t escape the pressure. She juggled projects, exams, and part-time work to support herself. The stress began to take a toll on her health. She felt constantly tired, and her friends and family grew concerned.

One day, as Priyanka was heading home from her university, she noticed a street performer playing a beautiful melody on his guitar. The music was enchanting, and a small crowd had gathered to listen. Priyanka stood for a moment, letting the soothing tunes wash over her. It was the first time in weeks that she had stopped to simply enjoy a moment.

When Priyanka arrived home, her mother asked her how her day had been. Priyanka replied with a sigh, “I’m so overwhelmed. There’s always something new to worry about.”

Her mother gently replied, “Priyanka, I know you’re working hard for your future, but doesn’t that mean you should also find joy in the present? Life isn’t just about reaching your goals. It’s about living each day fully.”

That night, Priyanka reflected on her mother’s words. She realized that while she was entirely focused on her goals, she had been missing out on the simple pleasures of life. She decided to make a change.

The next day, Priyanka started to incorporate small, joyful moments into her routine. She began taking short breaks to go for walks in the park, enjoying the fresh air and vibrant colours of nature. She made time to catch up with her friends over coffee, sharing laughs and stories. And she even learned to play a few simple tunes on her guitar, finding joy in the music.

To her surprise, these small changes made a significant difference. Priyanka felt more relaxed and reenergized. Her stress levels decreased, and her productivity improved. She realized that taking time to enjoy life did not take away from her goals but actually enhanced her ability to work towards them.

One evening, as Priyanka sat on her balcony, looking out at the city lights, she smiled. She understood that most of our life is indeed spent working towards our goals, but it doesn’t mean we must remain stressed all the time. By finding joy in the little things and balancing work with relaxation, she could enjoy both the journey and the destination.

Priyanka continued her hard work with a new perspective. She embraced each day with a sense of balance and happiness, knowing that life was as much about the moments she lived as it was about the goals she achieved.
